DATES: August 7-16, 2017
The new-for-2017 10-day TPS x Steep-N-Deep tour is more intermediate and advanced snowboarders who want to experience both the resorts and the backcoutry of the Chilean Andes. Over the course of the trip, snowboarding is our conduit for exploration of Chile, though ample time is afforded for experiencing Chilean culture in Santiago, Los Andes, and the coast. We will ride at El Colorado, Vale Nevado, La Parva, and Portillo as well as spend a day with the talented guides at amazing backcountry catboarding operation, Ski Arpa. New to the backcountry? That’s totally OK! Our guides will provide information about backcountry and avalanche safety so you will feel confident going off piste. In addition to enjoying Chile’s prolific August powder, a spa day at a posh resort in Los Andes is included mid-trip to make sure your muscles are ready for more snowboarding!
10-Day Tour Schedule:
Day 1: Arrival in Chile! Walking tour of Santiago and welcome dinner of traditional Chilean specialities.
Day 2: Head to Farellones, a mountain town situated in the majestic cliffs of the Andes and snowboard at El Colorado Resort.
Day 3: Ride at Valle Nevado.
Day 4: Backcountry and avalanche safety and snowboarding at La Parva.
Day 5: Snowboarding! Resort TBD based on conditions. Post-riding, it’s time to head to Los Andes, north of Santiago for some pampering and relaxation prior to heading into the backcountry on an epic catboarding tour! Check into a luxurious resort hotel, complete with spacious and modern hotel rooms, multiple dining options, pool, outdoor wine-barrel hot tubs, full-service spa, and a casino.
Day 6: After four days of snowboarding, day 6 is all about rejuvenating your muscles before getting back on your board for two more days! Wake up leisurely and enjoy a traditional breakfast, utilize the spa, or relax in the hot tubs. Midday, head off site for a wine tasting and vineyard lunch. Spend the evening relaxing and getting your legs ready for catboarding!
Day 7: Catboarding at Ski Arpa, which means a day of powder-filled bowls all to ourselves (only one cat goes riding per day), and incredible views of the Andes.
Day 8: Ride at Portillo.
Day 9: Time to go to the coast! After breakfast, head west to the port cities of Vina del Mar and Valparaiso. Enjoy a walking tour of beautiful Valparaiso, known for its prolific street art and dinner at one of Chile’s most well-known restaurants.
Day 10: Experience the southern Pacific Ocean with a morning spent surfing in Concon, just a short and gorgeous drive from Valparaiso. Instructors will help those new to riding waves and all gear is provided! After the surf sessions, an amazing ocean-side seafood lunch provides the opportunity to enjoy more Chilean delicacies and reflect on an incredible trip! Then, it’s back to Santiago to catch flights back home.
